Late goal earns TS Galaxy a draw

The Rockets remain undefeated in the PSL

A goal on 90 minutes salvaged a 1-1 draw for TS Galaxy in their DStv Premiership match against Golden Arrows at Mbombela Stadium this afternoon.

It was a match of two halves, with The Rockets dominating the first half, and Arrows coming back strongly in the second.

TS Galaxy had the best of the attacking play from the first whistle and came close to scoring in the eighth minute.

Khayelihle Shozi’s shot was stopped by Arrows’ defender Nkosinathi Sibisi on the line.

Golden Arrows’ best chance of the first stanza came in the 17th minute with a free kick just outside the 18-yard box.

Knox Mutizwa dipped the ball into the goal area but The Rockets’ captain and defender, Given Msimango, put the ball out for what was to be a toothless corner.

Five minutes later Karabo Tshepe hit a powerful shot on target, only to be denied by Arrows’ keeper, Sifiso Mlungwana.

Arrows came out firing in the second half and came millimetres from taking the lead in the 56th minute.

A Mutizwa free-kick came off Msimango and into the path off Gladwin Shitolo whose belter hit the cross-bar.

The Rockets precision and accuracy they had in the first half disappeared in the second. Arrows, though, defended exceptionally well and upped their tempo on attack.

In the 72nd minute a wayward pass by Gerald Modisane gifted Arrows possession and Pule Mmodi scored to put the visitors 1-0 up.

The Rockets pushed for the equaliser but there play was loose and decision-making poor.

Just when it seemed TS Galaxy would lose their first match of the season Shaun Mogaile found the back of the net on 90 minutes.

Both sides had opportunities in the final four minutes of the match, with TS Galaxy defending two corners in the dying seconds.

The Rockets dropped to eighth on the log table, separated by goals for from Cape Town City in seventh, and goal difference from Golden Arrows in sixth place.
