Youth jubilated to be in awards’ top 100

Speaking to Mpumalanga News, Jubilation Magagule revealed that he started his bottled water business in November last year with only R500.

A 25-year old entrepreneur from Allandale in Bushbuckridge, Jubilation Magagule has been selected for the first annual 100 South African Shining Stars Awards hosted by Inside Education.

The awards are in line with the celebration of 26 years of democracy and seek to recognise the contributions by young people across South Africa and beyond.

Magagule owns and runs a beverage manufacturing company, Torha Refreshing Water, which gained popularity in less than a year since inception. He also owns a digital marketing company.

“The start-up capital was the biggest challenge, but I had to apply my principle to use what I have to get what I don’t have. I used the R500 to produce samples which I presented to my targeted clients and from there I managed to raise enough capital to produce 30 cases of 500-millilitre bottles. “I am currently looking for investors, since the demand of the product has grown beyond capacity,” he said.

Magagule described his brand as standing out with a uniquely African refreshing taste.

He urged anyone willing to start a business to follow his principle of using what they have to get what they don’t have.

“Starting a business with the little amount of money that I had at that time with the product finding its space on the shelves of big retailers including SPAR, Roots Butcheries, funeral parlours, spaza shops and hospitality centres, proves that anything is possible,” he said. Magagule has since empowered eight youths to start their distribution businesses.

The young entrepreneur is not afraid of taking risks. “Starting something that I have no idea how to finish, witnessing people going for something new, anything that has the potential for failure but is not a total disaster, gets my heart and creativity pumping,” said Magagule.

He considered his inclusion in the top 100 South African Shining Stars Awards as a great achievement. “Being recognised and making it to the top 100 is a big achievement.

If I win the award I will take it as an inspiration to continue doing good . I will also find alternatives ways to bring solutions to country’s economy during this Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

Magagule pleaded with upcoming entrepreneurs not to be afraid of taking risks, working hard, being determined and focusing on the desired goal. He is also the founder of the South African Youth Activation, which hosts the annual Bushbuckridge Talent Competition.
