Our View: Let us applaud all those who aspire to uplift and empower our womenfolk

As we officially close Women’s Month, it is befitting to applaud all those who aspire to uplift and empower our womenfolk in the province.

It goes without saying that the advent of democracy in the country has brought about significant change and a shift in mentality.

Before democracy, women belonged in the kitchen and changing diapers, but today they occupy seats previously
reserved for men only. And it is worth mentioning that they are excelling, better than many of our menfolk.

British novelist and poet, William Golding, put it bluntly when he said, “I think women are foolish to pretend they
are equal to men. They are far superior and always have been. Whatever you give a woman, she will make it greater.

“If you give her sperm she will give you a baby, if you give her a house she will give you a home. If you give her
groceries she will give you a meal.

“If you give her a smile she will give you her heart. She multiplies and enlarges what is given to her. So, if
you give her any crap be ready to receive hell”.

That is the power women carry. As we close this month, let us all subtract the pull me down syndrome from our
brains and add the spirit of lifting and empowering one another.
