Take a ride on the wild side of life

Activities like the horse riding are more adventurous and continue to give more things that people can see.

Have you ever thought of being adventurers, viewing the scenic views of the province, riding a horse?

Several journalists enjoyed their first time horse riding during the launch of the Annual Mpumalanga Tourism Festive Season Campaign at Kaapsehoop Horse Trails.
Horse riding is one of the adventurous activities to be enjoyed by families and tourists visiting the province.

This year’s festive season is themed “Mpumalanga beyond wildlife”. It talks to the diverse tourism offerings to be enjoyed by visitors, besides wildlife.
Speaking during the launch, Xolani Mthethwa, the executive manager of Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency, said, “There are many people visiting the Kruger National Park which is still very key for us, and it is still one of the biggest tourist attraction sites in South Africa, and we continue to leverage on it. Activities like the horse riding are more adventurous and continue to give more things that people can see,” said Mthethwa.

“The campaign is aimed at both trade and tourism consumers who travel to visit friends and relatives for leisure and other purposes. The campaign further aims to demystify the perception that travelling is expensive and only for the elite,” added Mthethwa.

The campaign will run until January 17, 2020. He added that the campaign offers affordable packages for everyone wishing to visit, energise and recharge from daily stress.

These areas include the Panorama Route, Three Rondavels, God’s Window, Barberton Makhonjwa Geotrail, 4×4 routes at Songimvelo, Malolotja Transfrontier Conservation Area, the Samora Machel Monument, the Liberation Heritage Route in Gert Sibande, boat cruise in Swadini, the Bushbuckridge Marula Route and the wild horses at Kaapsehoop.

Mthethwa added that the department also promotes township tourism. “We are busy finalising the township tourism itineraries, starting with KaNyamazane. We encourage tourists to make a stop at KaNyamazane and visit Chafzer and the township tourism activities there. We are busy with Nkangala and Siyabuswa. Next year we will focus on Gert Sibande,” he said. Mthethwa revealed the department has plans in place to revive Pilgrim’s Rest.

Mthethwa urged locals to protect tourists from crime. “We would like to urge our communities to stop seeing tourists as soft targets who can be robbed of their belongings. We appeal to communities to report any crimes against tourists to their local hospitality sector,” he said.
