Uyanda Mbuli joins The Queen

Former Miss Mpumalanga, Uyanda Mbuli joins Mzansi Magic’s most successful soapie, The Queen, as the character of Cynthia Nkomo.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how far my character, Cynthia, goes and experience the dynamics of what the character must deal with,”  said Uyanda Mbuli.

Well known media personality, Uyanda Mbuli, has joined Mzansi’s most successful drama, The Queen, where she plays the character of a Swati-speaking social worker called Cynthia.

Her character will first appear on Friday.

Uyanda Mbuli (41) is a former Mrs Globe South Africa (2005), a businesswoman, a TV producer, reality TV star and actor.

She is the executive producer of her own reality tv show, Uyanda Its On, which broadcast season 1 and 2 on SABC 3.

Uyanda first came under the spotlight as a supermodel while studying a BCom at the University of the Western Cape in 1996, the same year she was crowned Miss Cape Town. In 1997 she was crowned Miss Mpumalanga and graced magazine covers like Tribute and Pace.

She then went back to complete her Bachelor of Commerce degree and started a corporate career, which led her to being the communications manager for the Johannesburg’s electricity utility city power, then joined the Gauteng Department of Housing as a director of communications.

But, it was in 2005 that she started making tabloid headlines while being the PR manager for SABC 1.

The late Sunday Times columnist, Gwen Gills, called her the best-dressed women in South Africa throughout the late 2000s, leading her to be regarded as a style icon. She was inducted into the |GSports hall of fame in 2009 as a style star.

She also co-founded leading fashion house, Diamond Face Couture in 2008.

Uyanda is no stranger to acting. She returns to it after 14 years. She was on season 1 of SABC1’s Tshisa where she played the character of Nomonde, before turning behind the scenes as part of the SABC1 management team which drove the channel’s brand repositioning from “YaMampela” to “Mzansi4Sure”.

Her corporate career includes being the youngest deputy director general at the Gauteng Department of Economic Development, responsible for Gauteng Liquor Board communications. She also served as the executive manager of marketing and communications at the Johannesburg Development Agency.

Uyanda was the youngest member on the boards of Gauteng Film Commission and Tara Hospital.

She returned on the screen in 2017 when she launched Season 1 of her reality show, after focusing on the corporate world for many years.

Others may know her from TV shows like SABC2’s Strictly Come Dancing, Vuzu’s TopShayela and Reality Check.
