Toyota offers Wi-Fi as standard on all models

We live in a connected world, a world where smartphones and other devices have become a necessity to do day-to-day tasks.

Our devices connect to our TV’s, watches, printers and in some cases even our fridges, so what about your car. For several years now premium German automakers have developed Apps that work in conjunction with their cars and the benefits are somewhat endless, but what about the average South African? Well, Toyota SA along with its partners has decided to introduce Wi-Fi and App connectivity as standard across all Toyota and Lexus models.

What do you get?

The system is known as Toyota Connect. It is a new connectivity hub that will be located within the MyToyota App, which has been available since 2014. This new technology allows Toyota owners access to a variety of convenient, connectivity and safety benefits. Toyota South Africa is currently the only manufacturer in South Africa to offer a mobile app that fully integrates with their manufacturer and dealership systems, it also becomes the first establishment in the world to offer the merging of Wi-Fi and connectivity features in one package across the model range.

The system lets you book services, find your car, track your driving style, monitor your battery voltage, it also offers AA roadside assistance with impact detection alert, it also offers Logbook functionality that makes it easy for you to log your fuel spend for tax purposes.

What about Wi-Fi?

Toyota SA has partnered with Altron which handles the intricacies of the App as well as Vodacom Business which provides Wi-Fi support. The really big news is that every new Toyota and Lexus will come standard with Wi-Fi as well as 15GB free data (SA only) as a once-off upon activation. Thereafter, customers can top-up using Toyota Connect or their banking apps. Even the Quantum will come with this feature meaning that passengers will be able to request the password from the driver and gain access to the internet while on their trip. The system can connect well over 30 devices and has been tested with high load demand. This means that even the average family or group of friends will be able to connect their devices to the car while on the move, as long as it is a Toyota.

When is it available?

“As of 01 September 2019, all-new Toyota and Lexus models sold in South Africa will come standard with in-car Wi-Fi including 15GB free data (which you can top up) as well as a host of connectivity features and benefits courtesy of Toyota Connect, a major extension of the MyToyota App,” Andrew Kirby, President and CEO of TSAM
