Lowveld activities for the family to enjoy

From natural landmarks to beautiful towns, the Lowveld’s packed with a bevy of reasons to pay a visit.

The Lowveld boasts natural wonder, historical relevance and small-town charm, all of which can be enjoyed by the entire family. These are some of its best offerings.

Pilgrim’s Rest

The town of Pilgrim’s Rest is steeped in both historical and aesthetic value. Among its attractions are several museums, a war memorial that pays tribute to local soldiers who died in both world wars, and The Royal Hotel, whose bar has its own interesting history. It was once a school chapel that was dismantled, transported from Cape Town to Pilgrim’s Rest via Delagoa Bay, and reassembled, bit by bit, after it eventually arrived in town.

Lowveld National Botanical Gardens

One of Nelspruit’s most popular highlights, the Lowveld National Botanical Gardens is the perfect spot for a dose of outdoor tranquility. It’s features include the African Rainforest, which you can observe from the SAPPI Aerial Boardwalk overhead; the Cascade and Nels viewpoints, which overlook where both the Crocodile and Nels rivers form some beautiful waterfalls; and a glorious collection of cycads.

The Panorama Route

A trip along the Panorama Route will take you past numerous natural wonders and a few lovely towns. Graskop is a notable feature along the route, as this town find itself very near both the Berlin and Lisbon waterfalls, the Bourke’s Luck Potholes, the Pinnacle, and God’s Window. The route also includes the Blyde River Canyon, the Three Rondavels and the Echo Caves, as well as the towns of Lydenburg (home to a well-known museum), White River and Sabie.

Sudwala Caves

A fairly short distance from Nelspruit, the Sudwala Caves make for a fascinating adventure, during which you can explore various systems, chambers and formations. If you prefer to be outdoors, however, then there’s a spa onsite, as well as the Sudwala Butterfly Effect Nature Garden.

Kruger National Park

And, of course, there’s the Kruger. This expansive area boasts lodges aplenty, as well numerous opportunities for a safari. Either take a guided tour of certain sections or the park over the course of several days, or drive yourself. Whatever your choice, you’re guaranteed a jaw-dropping, eye-opening time.

The Lowveld is not just a wonderful place to visit, but a wonderful place to live. If you’re thinking about buying property in Nelspruit or other areas within the Lowveld region, then click here.
