April new vehicle sales: How South Africa compares

South Africa’s new vehicle sales posted its first increase of 2019 in April, with the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) recording a small 0.7% hike from last year’s 36 528 units to 36 794 this year.

With the exception of the Brazilian market that reversed its loss from the previous month, other markets were down across the board with Australia recording its lowest figure since March 2014 by falling 8.9%, while the United Kingdom slumped by 4.1% due to ongoing slides in the sales of diesel vehicles.

As a comparison, here is how South Africa’s Top 10 best sellers from February stacked-up against those from the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and Brazil.

Note: The Ford F-series keeps its position as the best-selling new vehicle in the United States ahead of the Chevrolet Silverado, but both Ford and General Motors only post quarterly figures instead of monthly, which explains the absence of numbers for Ford and Lincoln products, as well as Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac and GMC.
