Winds of change are blowing heavily across the country

The winds of change are blowing heavily across the country with the swearing in of Cyril Ramaphosa as state president last Thursday, and his delivery of the State of the Nation Address on Friday.

We hope, as the people of South Africa, to have a president who will live up to his promises, as unfulfilled promises will result in a decline in support. He should take a cue from his predecessor, Jacob Zuma. He promised a better life through working together as a country.

What did the people get out of working with him? They sang along to “Umshini Wami” and “Yindelendlela”, while the economy took a sharp decline. He was preaching radical economic transformation while he and his friends raked in the money.

You can’t fool a nation forever. They watch your every step. If you genuinely trip in your strides to better their lives, they will rescue you. But if you take them for a ride, as your predecessor did for the last nine years, they will demonstrate their power at the polls by withholding their votes. Jacob Zuma didn’t see it coming because he was deeply entrenched in looting finances with his cohorts, which led him to forget that this is not Zuma Kingdom, it is a democratic South Africa.

Live and act by your oath of office conducted by Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng. Once you flout, he will come back and haunt you, as will the people of South Africa. You will always need the people’s support as the president.

We are happy with your ascendancy over the country. We are confident that you will live up to all expectations. This is your time, Ramaphosa. God’s destiny dictated that you will come into power when all is tattered and torn in the country and become Mr Fixit.

The ball is in your court.
