The Official Mpumalanga Annual Music Awards (OMAMA) will be launched on Saturday at the Union Motors’ Mercedes Benz Showroom.
The awards will be held in 2018.
“These awards were established after local artists approached us and shared their ideas with us on how we can make the music industry in Mpumalanga great. It is also a result of discussions we had with other local community radio stations.

We want to create an environment in which we can promote our local artists. OMAMA stems from sharing ideas with local event organisers and the combining of great existing programmes across our immediate borders, to also give exposure and to redefine the idea of being local,” said Makhosi Zulu, the founder of OMAMA and station manager for Nkomazi fm.
“The aim of the launch is to engage with partners about the programme of the event. We want to introduce artists’ development and cross border collaboration programme. Our vision is to reward, develop, unite existing, up and coming musicians,” said Zulu.

Invited guests and the media are welcome to attend the launch.
Zulu said that they are working together with the DCSR, MTPA,CICFSA, UMSEBE Accord, MGB, The Department of Finance, Economic
Development and Tourism, Vodacom, Jetline Music, Nabalabantfu Entertainment and Mercedes Benz. Mpumalanga News is a partner in this initiative.
