Music 97 drummer Thabo Mnisi showcases his talent on NXT LVL show

Thabo says he draws inspiration from his drum teacher Thabang Motaung who he describes as the best drummer in the world.

Vodacom, in partnership with Rocka, is on a mission to find South Africa’s next big music superstar and has launched a new TV show ‘The NXT LVL.’ The screening of the weekly show is on Mzansi Magic, DSTV channel 161 every Wednesday at 21:30. The show is presented by renowned TV personality Denise Zimba alongside Mzansi’s own music icons and show mentors; DJ Zinhle, Danny K, Euphonik, Riky Rick and Durban’s Big Nuz.

“The NXT LVL TV Show is the only reality show where the winning contestant isn’t forced into a recording deal with a label, but through this show; the winner is given enough resources to record a full album with the best producers in the country. The winner is given exposure through a PR agency to help build their brand and a lawyer to assist and draft the contracts pertaining to music rights and royalties. The show is really NXT LVL!!!” Says mentor Danny K.

“This is more than just a music show, it’s about building future entrepreneurs. Successful artists are those that are able to build their brand beyond the stage,” adds Euphonik.

Mpumalanga’s very own Thabo Mnisi is part of the show and a band member of Music 97 that will also be mentored by the country’s seasoned musicians. Music 97 consists of four talented young individuals with Marcus Mocane (20) on the bass guitar, Andy Keys (18) on vocals and piano, Khanyi (22) also on vocals and Thabo Mnisi (18).

Thabo showcases his drummer skills.

They chose the name Music 97 because they make music 97% of the time. The group originally started with just two guys playing musical instruments at a church conference in November 2015, and the band was formed which already shared a stage with some of South Africa’s biggest names in the entertainment industry.

The purpose of the show is to give all young South Africans under the age of 25 the opportunity to follow their passion and realise their dreams by giving them access to all the things they love. This includes data, rewards and music. It focuses on the development of talent through various platforms that focus on mentoring and coaching.
