Music awards a mere fizzle

Sun City hosted the South African Music Awards at the Superbowl on Saturday. Many celebrities, musicians and socialites headed to the much-anticipated awards.

PILANESBERG – The red carpet had more than enough fashionistas who dressed to impress.
However, the awards were disappointing to say the least. There was not even a speck of excitement.

The awards were handed to the artists, although, one could question whether they deserved them or not.
It was definitely Kwesta’s night, scooping a majority of the awards, which was well deserved as he produced good music.

Social media was abuzz after gqom queen, Babes Wodumo, went home empty- handed. It was baffling to many since her hit song “Wololo” became a national anthem last year and was an undisputed favourite.

Kwesta and Nasty C who raked in the most awards.

The treatment towards the media at the event left a bitter taste in mouths. The word ”terrible” would not describe the experience. The organisers were confused by their own system and did not keep their end of the deal. The accreditation that the media received was not complete.

It is a sad story because media houses such as Mpumalanga News as well as others went all out to publicise the event, but received nothing in return. Nonetheless, everything else was in order and thumbs up to the hosts, Somizi Mhlongo and comedian Tumi Morake for a sterling job.

There were quite a few surprises but Skolopad got the attention she was sought, rocking up in yet another dress that revealed her butt.

We also spotted a few locals who attended the awards including U-Babes we-ANC Nomvula, Miss Mpumalanga 2017 Geraldine Williams, Mzimari Productions CEO Gugu Nyarenda and her team, and Sweetmike and his wife.  Truth be told, they did not disappoint; they slayed and represented Mpumalanga well.

Are the awards worth attending next year? A definite maybe.
