Mpumalanga’s gospel star Rebecca Malope to receive a lifetime achievement award
Mpumalanga-born gospel singer Rebecca Malope, the Queen of Gospel is among three veteran musicians to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 23rd South African Music Awards (Sama) this year.
MBOMBELA – Ribs, as she is affectionately known, and has touched millions of souls with her soothing voice – in the country and internationally.

She is a multiple Sama winner and a music force to be reckoned with. Her powerful voice has taken her all over Africa, the US and Europe, filling up venues wherever she goes.
Jazz artist Don Laka is also in line to take home a Lifetime Achievement gong.

The pioneer of kwaai-jazz who started off in the trenches of the genre and dabbled with kwaito, is a revered pianist and a record-label co-owner.
He is also a Sama winner and respected figure in the local music industry. Bra Don defined a brand-new sound and helped produce stars through his work.
Music legend of the 1970s and 1980s, Babsy Mlangeni will also be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

This blind musicians never lets his condition hinder him. His entertaining songs with compelling messages propelled his name into the stratosphere of fame.

The awards will be held at Sun City Superbowl on May 26.
