Those who watched the Nedbank Cup quarter-final between Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United jumped for joy when the referee, Victor Gomes blew the final whistle after extra-time at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
The match was deadlocked at one-all after 90 minutes of regulation time and 30 minutes of extra time. Chiefs’ George Maluleka was the unfortunate player not to score in the penalty shoot-out.
The two Gauteng based teams are set to lock horns for the second time in a week as they renew their rivalry in the Absa Premiership.
The match will be played at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday. Kick-off is at 18:00.
Both teams have been in sublime form this season and are both on course to lift the domestic title.
Amakhosi having already missed out on the MTN 8, Telkom Knockout and the Nedbank Cup this season.
Despite bowing out of the Nedbank Cup, the Steve Komphela has silenced his critics by leading Chiefs’ to 12 consecutive, unbeaten league matches. Amakhosi are third on the Premier League log table.
But SuperSport, which have lost their last three league games (exclude Tuesday encounter against Bidvest Wits), most recently going down twice to their Tshwane rivals Mamelodi Sundowns (5-0 and 1-0) in less than a week, will be no pushovers.
The tickets are already selling at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers outlets nationwide at a cost of R50 for adults and R20 for children. Gates open at 14:00 and game kick-off at 18:00.
