Mthunzi Lodge hosts its sixth consecutive successful marathon

The aim is to bring people of diverse cultural backgrounds together, and to have fun while participating in the sport.

The management of Mthunzi Lodge has hosted a successful marathon for the sixth time, drawing a number of athletes from home and abroad.

Winners of the 15-kilometre marathon each received a share of the R60 000 cash prize, medals, as well as other prizes. Local runner, Folavia Sehohle, won first place in the males category while Abednego Mashaba took second.

Ntokozo Dlamini and Lina Mhlongo, came first and second in this year’s race as well.

According to the lodge owner and founder of the marathon, Doctor July Sibuyi, affectionately known as DJ, the race has become a notable day on the calendar and draws runners from different parts of the province, and from places as far as Gauteng and Limpopo. He says organising this event for six consecutive years is motivated by the late Madiba’s words of encouragement to make a difference in the community.

“The aim is to bring people of diverse cultural backgrounds together, and to have fun while participating in the sport.

“The day is also as a social-networking platform where grown and upcoming entrepreneurs share business ideas in a relaxing atmosphere.
“Running also provides the best mental massage, no medication can ever provide the best therapy to stress than what running does. Every person should consider running as their form of medication,” adds Sibuyi.

He expressed words of gratitude to sponsors Juslo Security, Crystal Water, Nkuna Accounting Services as well as others.
