Well-known trendsetter launches clothing line

KO says that his style is inspired by his patriotic obsession with the South African culture and music.

The year seems to have started on a high note for award-winning artist, Ntokozo Mdluli, also known as KO, who has launched his clothing line.

He is described as a trendsetter and on the streets he is referred to as Mr Swagger, so it is fitting for him to own his own brand.  “I created the DustnKOmpany range because it was logical too, as I have managed to create fashion trends in the urban space with an ensemble of various brands.”

In 2014 his company, Cashtime Life, had a line that comprised mainly T-shirts and bucket hats. The range was sold out, and production output was far outweighed by the demand.  “Soon enough the pirates and bootleggers showed up, and our merchandise line became the most pirated brand on the continent. Counterfeit Cashtime Life clothing was everywhere, from Angola to Zambia. That showed fans from across the continent that it was time to act up and start supporting African music brands, leading me to start my own label.

“It’s just time for us to do for ourselves  and to use that influence to empower us,” says KO.
