Local comedian climbs the ladder of success

He is said to be one of the most exciting upcoming comedians with a sense of humour for days.

Born in Bushbuckridge and growing up in Mbombela, Ebenhaezer Dibakwane is swiftly rising in the comedy industry. The former Penryn student recently scooped the Savanna Comics’ Choice Newcomer of the Year award. “It took me a while to make people understand comedy and faith turned out to be the key that led me to great things.”

He appeared in David Kau’s Blacks Only, The Comedy Central International Comedy Festival, and wrote and performed sketches for the SABC 2 show; Bantu Hour with Hugh Masekela and Kagiso Lediga.
His fans will soon see him in an upcoming TV advert. Dibakwane had the opportunity to study at a prestigious school and is often asked why he chose this industry. “My parents are academics and they gave me endless opportunities, but we all have different aspirations. Hence, pursuing my studies in education at the University of Johannesburg did not work out,” he says.

His childhood was nothing short of amazing, growing up with 2016 Idols SA winner, Karabo Mogane – his cousin.
He reveals he is more than a funny man, he’s a maths whizz too. “My father ran a maths and science academy where I helped out because I am good with numbers. Trust me, I’m climbing the ladder towards being a zillionaire, if such a word exists,” he chuckles.
His advice to young people is to bear in mind that to succeed, one must be willing to sacrifice and to fight for and stand up for yourself.
“Show up, work hard and revolutionise! Learn to lead and not to be a follower,” he concluded.
