Home team continue to dominate

A second-half brace by Siyabonga Madikane ensured that Tingwenyama bagged their first win of the 2016/17 National First Division season.

A highly motivated Mbombela United will this Saturday visit rookies Real Kings after continuing their dominance over bottom-placed Milano United with a 2-0 victory last Saturday at KaNyamazane Stadium.

A second-half brace by Siyabonga Madikane ensured that Tingwenyama bagged their first win of the 2016/17 National First Division season.

The win means that the Cape-Town side, Milano have not beaten Tingwenyama in their three encounters. Last season, Mbombela beat Milano 1-0 both at home and away.

Despite the win, both Mbombela and Milano failed to entertain the decent crowd in the first half. This resulted in the game going into the recess scoreless. The interval seems to have given Mbombela coach, Vusi Mkhatshwa, an opportunity to give his players directives, as they returned as an improved side in the second stanza.

It came as no surprise in the 47th minute when a long pass loop by goalkeeper Sikhumbuzo “Senzo” Khalishwayo found Siyambonga Madikane.

The strongly built Madikane overpowered Nashief Morris before unleashing a half-volley strike that left the overstretched former Jomo Cosmos goalkeeper Sherwyn Naicker, in goals for Milano, with no chance to save it.

From there Mbombela dominated the game but failed to capitalise on the numerous chances they created.

It required the introduction of Zambian international, Clifford Mulenga for the fans to see the second goal.

Barely five minutes after coming onto the field, the newly signed Mulenga showed his experience when he delayed a play for his teammates to arrive in the small box before looping over a cross to an unmarked Madikane to freely head home his second goal of the game.

Mbombela will later today take on newly promoted KwaZulu-Natal side, Real Kings.

The match will take place at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.

Kick-off is at 15:00

Mkhatshwa said despite the win over United, they will still have to work hard.

“We have a lot of youngsters who have their first season in the NFD.”
