Mulenga signs with United

He parted ways with The Dube Birds at the end of last season. Apart from Swallows, he has also played for the University of Pretoria, Bidvest Wits, Thanda Royal Zulu, Bloemfontein Celtics, SuperSport United, Ajax Cape Town, Zesco United (Zambia) and Orgryte IS (Sweden.

Well-travelled Zambian international, Clifford Mulenga, has signed with Mbombela United.
Mulenga, who was part of the Moroka Swallows side that was relegated to the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League last season, was part of the Tingwenyama side that competed in the Mpumalanga Transversal Cup on Sunday.

“It’s a done deal. I have signed a two-year contract with United,” confirmed Mulenga to Mpumalanga News soon after their match against University of Pretoria.

The 28-year-old midfielder was one of the penalty converters for United. He showed his experience as he remained calm and sent Tristyn Coetzee, goalkeeper for University of Pretoria, the wrong way.

“I’m here to assist United to gain promotion to the Absa Premiership. This is an ambitious team full of energetic youngsters, who still aspire to achieve great things in their football careers. As one of the senior players, I’m here to guide them,” added Mulenga.

The talented left-footed dribbling wizard was named as the 2007 Glo-CAF Young Player of the Year, while he was an Afcon winner with Zambia at the 2012 African Cup of Nations. He was last on the books of a National First Division club when he was with Swallows.

He parted ways with The Dube Birds at the end of last season. Apart from Swallows, he has also played for the University of Pretoria, Bidvest Wits, Thanda Royal Zulu, Bloemfontein Celtics, SuperSport United, Ajax Cape Town, Zesco United (Zambia) and Orgryte IS (Sweden).

Stanley Manana, United team manager confirmed the acquisition of Mulenga.

He said they also bolstered their squad with an additional seven players.

They are Matome Mabiba (left wing from Highlands Park), Siyabonga Modipane (striker from Vasco Da Gama), Sibusiso Sikhosana (defender from Witbank Spurs), Ludick Mkhatshwa (goalkeeper from Free State Stars), Ngibulele Matikinca (midfielder from Tornado in the Eastern Cape), Banele Mngomezulu (midfielder from Monaco in the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League) and Xolani Ngema (striker from African Warriors).
