Gijima Masters victorious in Bhuga Diski tourney

Gijima Masters emerged as the overall winners after thrashing Kabokweni Masters 4-2 on penalties.

The Bhuga Diski Tournament has come and gone leaving thousands of soccer fans yearning for more games in their area.

Soccer lovers filled the Nsikazi Stadium to capacity on the weekend of July 23 and 24 to watch good football played by local teams.

Gijima Masters emerged as the overall winners after thrashing Kabokweni Masters 4-2 on penalties. The team won R2 000 prize money, a trophy and medals with the runners-up receiving a trophy and silver medals.

In the u/21 category, a hearty game between Eugill Stars and Tingwenyama ended on a 1-1 draw. Eugill Stars were victorious after a penalty shoot-out, scoring 5-3. The u/21team also received R2 000 prize money, a trophy and medals.

The prize for the coach of the tournament was awarded to Mduduzi Maphanga, while Moses Nkuna won player of the tournament.

The game was attended by Kaizer Chiefs number-one fan, Saddam Maake, Sifiso “S” known as “By fire by force” and local Bishop Phillip Mlotjwa were also there.

The coordinator, Vuyani Nyundu said they planned to expand the tournament from next year to include many local teams from Mbombela.

Nyundu expressed appreciation to the sponsors including Afrisure Funeral Services manager, Gordon Shongwe, local businessmen, Gay Mokoena, Skhumbuzo Mbuyani and the management of 1st Legacy Life.
