Local team scores big

The God’s Chosen School Tournament for u/15 primary school learners and u/20 high school learners from Mbombela, Nkomazi and Umjindi local municipalities kicked off on Monday May 9.

Johannesburg-based company Score Energy Drink has extended a helping hand to partner with God’s Chosen and other local sponsors for the development of sports in schools in the province.

“The company is not a new bird in schools development, but has been involved in LaLiga and Future Champions.

“We are interested in the growth of talent from grass-root’s level, hence we responded positively towards God’s Chosen’s request of partnering with them locally,” explained John Biyela, regional manager of Score Energy Drink.

“We support schools development countrywide, even our brand itself associates mainly with soccer,” he adds. “We are looking towards to a long-term relationship even in this province,” he adds.

The God’s Chosen School Tournament for u/15 primary school learners and u/20 high school learners from Mbombela, Nkomazi and Umjindi local municipalities kicked off on Monday May 9.

The tournament’s founder and main sponsor, locally based businessman Vusi Nkosi has vowed for his continual and unwavering support to sports development. This he said during the second launch on April 18.

“We don’t have any excuses when it comes to our community. God blesses us to be a blessing to others, especially the less fortunate,” said Nkosi. He called on parents and more willing businesses to join in.

“If parents can combine and spend a dollar a month for the development of our kids’ talent, there will be a huge impact. Let’s all join hands to build our kids’ future, build them sporting facilities and develop them as young as they are,” he said.

“Our vision is not only to sponsor soccer, but all the other sporting codes for the total development of an African child, however, the only challenge we are faced with is the availability of sports facilities,” he said.

Semi-finals for the tournament will be held on August 20 at Mbombela Stadium and finals on September 3 at KaMhlushwa Stadium.
