Fairy tale comes true for singers

Originally from Block C in Nkomazi, this young songbird will soon be soaring in international skies and she's looking forward to it.

Mpumalanga is known for producing gold when it comes to the music industry, and Princess Indlovukazi Nkuna is on her way to become the province’s next big thing.

Originally from Block C in Nkomazi, this young songbird will soon be soaring in international skies and she’s looking forward to it.

Nkuna will soon make her way to Atlanta in America after being chosen by the Independent Music Exporters South Africa (Imexsa) during a competition that was recently held in Johannesburg.

“It’s such an exciting journey for me altogether; being chosen from all the musicians who participated. I have been chosen to perform at the SAxATL International Music Exchange Festival, and I am looking forward to it. The festival will take place in June, so I am currently preparing myself for it,” said Indlovukazi.

She has also been chosen to perform in the Midem Festival in France later in the year.

According to Nkuna, some expenses will be covered by the event organisers, but she still needs sponsorship for her tour.

“I will be doing stage performances when I get there, thus I will need a CD to help me on stage. I need to do some recording before I leave. I will also need to travel with a crew, people to help with capturing my performance while I’m on stage.

“Selling my CDs at the venue will also be a bonus for me because it would mean I’m leaving the people with memories of the music I make, it will also ensure more international gigs. I plan on making a name for myself,” she added.

Nkuna was not the only one from Nkomazi to impress the judges on the day. Ray Mags, a siSwati rapper from Tonga, also made the judges fall in love with his creativity and ability to rap beautiful lines in siSwati.

“Mine ngibadzabula ngesiSwati. The judges were looking for something unique, I saw the gap and I went for it. I scored myself a gig in New York for the CMJ Music Marathon Festival, the date is yet to be confirmed. It’s a wonderful opportunity, one which I intend to grab with both hands,” said Mags.

The pair wants to tour Mpumalanga before they head overseas and they seek sponsorship to realise that goal.

“It would be nice for the province to see how we are going to represent them abroad before we go. We want to make noise about these projects, and having the province rally behind us would be an absolute pleasure.

“This would mean that the tour and everything we need to be sponsored with will have to happen before June, as my colleague will be leaving at the beginning of that month,” added Mags.

Getting local gigs would also help these two a great deal. Find them on social media as Princess Indlovukazi and Ray Mags on Facebook, or contact Mpumalanga News on 013-754-1600 for any enquiries.
