Gospel diva is back in town

Rebecca will be performing at the Peace and Unity Concert to be hosted by Big Fish at Mbombela Stadium, on September 5.

Mpumalanga’s very own gospel queen, Rebecca Malope, is back with a bang, and is currently touring Africa to show her appreciation to fans all over the continent.

Affectionately known as Ribs, this renowned musician says she has amazing songs lined up for her fans on her upcoming album, and has nothing but God’s grace to thank.

“I have been in this industry for over 20 years, it can only be the grace of God that has brought me this far.

Many people I started with have either passed on or are not in the industry any more. I thank God that I’m still here, and able to still make more music,” said Rebecca.

With 35 albums on her musical journey, and hits such as “amaVIP”, “Uthando”, and “Inombolo Yocingo”, Malope says she is soldiering on in the industry.

“I am currently working on my 36th album, and I’m excited about the project.

I’m also touring Africa. I will be heading to Zim soon, then Kenya and a lot of other African countries.

It gets tricky when one has been in the industry for so long, you might end up repeating your craft, and doing one thing all over again.

I thank God that I have been able to come up with different songs through the decades, not only different messages, but different harmonies as well, which makes it easier for the people to keep following my music,” she said.

Although Ribs has been in the public eye for a very long time now, many of her fans have no idea that she is a married woman, and has been for the past eight years.

“I’m a happily married woman. Family comes first and I feel my private life should be kept that way, private.

Marriage is between two people and their families, taking it to people’s faces will only cause trouble, as many people will now be involved.

I make sure to spend enough quality time with my family. Work and family should be separated, this is a recipe that works for me.”

Rebecca will be performing at the Peace and Unity Concert to be hosted by Big Fish at Mbombela Stadium, on September 5.

“I am ready for the day, all preparations have been put to bed. My fans should expect nothing but the best.

“I will perform my old songs, along some new tracks. I’m very excited about the concert, I know the Holy Spirit has an appointment with somebody on that day, and it will surely be fulfilled,” she concluded.

Tickets to the concert are available at Computicket for R200. VIP tickets cost R400.
