Africa shows off its fashion in style

"Celebrating Africa Month is celebrating the diversity and cultures of all Africans."

MBOMBELA – Not even load- shedding, which lasted for two hours, could spoil the fun fashionistas had at the “We are Africa” spectacular on Saturday.

The event, which was scheduled to start at 19:00 but ended up taking place at 21:00, was part of the month-long “We Are Africa” celebration programme that includes a strong fashion component in recognition of the powerful South African fashion culture that has developed over the past 21 years.

Hosted by the Department of Arts and Culture, the show saw top South African fashion designers, which included local designers, join their pan-African counterparts where they showcased their work.

“Celebrating Africa Month is celebrating the diversity and cultures of all Africans.

I love the way fashion has taken another level in terms of using African prints which have now been adopted by the Europeans.

It should tell people who are in conflict with other African nationals in our country that this continent is a special beautiful place that needs its people to embrace Africanism and Ubuntu,” said Nozipho Sifundza of Zeep Buttons, adding that the fact that local designers were given an opportunity to showcase their talent alongside well-known top designers countrywide was the cherry on top.

Mpumalanga News was there to capture the fashion spectacular.
