School champions are crowned
As Mbombela Local Municipality we are quite aware that the schools from rural areas do not have quality sport grounds .
MBOMBELA – Fundinjobo High School and Phola High School were in the both crowned 2014 Champions in the Sembcorp Cup of Mbombela High Schools in soccer and netball respectively.
The prize-giving was held at the Mbombela Civic theatre last week where more than 10 schools around Mbombela that participated, were honoured.
MD of Sembcorp Silulumanzi, Marius van Aardt said,
“No legacy is as rich as helping a person realizing his/her dreams. It wasn’t an easy journey ever since the tournament started, however, we had to choose one champion. We truly appreciate our sponsors and Ndumiso Zwane, the owner of Sneakers edition, who donated full soccer and netball kits for the champions of 2014.”
MMC for sport Zayd Boroko had a few words of support as well and said,
“The theme of the day is, ‘say yes to sports, say no to drugs’ and we believe that school sport provides a good career opportunity to our children.
“It sets the foundation. As Mbombela Local Municipality we are quite aware that the schools from rural areas do not have quality sport grounds and equipment, but we are proud to say that this will change soon.”
