Second time lucky for uncle Stanford

“I am overwhelmed with joy and the confidence for all to see.” These are the words of the ecstatic Stanford Mhlanga, host of the Lwesuka Lutfulishow on Ligwalagwala FM.

“I am overwhelmed with joy and the confidence for all to see.” These are the words of the ecstatic Stanford Mhlanga, host of the Lwesuka Lutfulishow on Ligwalagwala FM.

The show has been nominated for the South African Traditional Music Awards (Satma) 2014. “This is the second consecutive year for the nomination, we did not get it right the first time, but we are definitely on top of our game now,” he said.

The show was initially nominated in three categories, best traditional music radio programme, best traditional music radio DJ, and best traditional radio show. The station then opted to compete for one nomination, best traditional radio programme.

“We chose to run with one nomination because we did not want the votes to be divided as they were in last year’s two categories. We are confident that when combined, the votes will skyrocket to millions,” he added.

The station is urging Mpumalanga to vote for the show and stand a chance to win great prices such as a trip to Dubai or 10 cows. “We have started going on roadshows, encouraging people to vote for the show. We will also be giving away some 300 SIM cards for people to use to enter their votes.

This is an initiative by Satma,” said Mfanimpela Ndlala, events coordinator for Ligwalagwala FM. Mhlanga says he is humbled by the enormous growth of the show and he owes it all to the people. “This is my service delivery to the people, the show has grown tremendously, and hence I am confident that we are definitely bringing this award home.”

Mhlanga went on to encourage people, with emphasis on the youth, to continue embracing and celebrating cultural practices respectively.

“The youth is hands-on and taking advantage of the platforms catered to them to embrace their cultural norms. As we celebrate the cultural month, we should also know that originality is next to Godlyness, thus knowing your origins would mean you know God Himself,” he concluded.
