Local karate team shines

"Our victory in Pretoria has boosted our confidence a lot and we are going to train harder still as we are preparing for the global Taekwando Championship ".

MBOMBELA – The Nelspruit Wadokai Karate and Taekwando Dojo Club raised the flag of this province high in Pretoria last Saturday during the Taekwado International South African Development Championship.

The club managed to bring home a total of 20 medals – eight gold, ten silver and two bronze. During an interview with the jubilant instructor of the club, Job Magagula said,

“I was very confident that the club would make our province proud because from the start, their performance was great. They were committed and dedicated in categories such as fighting full contact and breaking boards.
“We started to prepare ourselves for this competition very early so that we could gain more fighting skills.”

“More young people are starting to show interest in this sport. This encourages the youth not to indulge in alcohol and substance abuse.
“Our victory in Pretoria has boosted our confidence a lot and we are going to train harder still as we are preparing for the Global Taekwado Championship competitions in Durban in December where will be competing against 20 countries.
“We have to work harder to maintain our good record,” he concluded.
