The family of the 25-year-old woman, who was knocked over by a bus in the Buscor terminal on Monday morning, say they expect the company to at least meet them halfway with the funeral arrangements and the burial.

The woman, a citizen of Mgcobaneni, was knocked and ran over by a bus and died on the scene.

“She left home for work healthy, and now will never return to us. The family is shattered and we acknowledge that there is nothing more we can do.

However, we do expect the company to meet us halfway with the funeral costs as the incident happened at their expense,” said Thomas Mlimi, a family member. A vendor who wishes to remain anonymous says she witnessed the whole incident and it was very unfortunate.

“The driver did not hoot when he noticed four people in front of his bus. He just carried on driving and knocked the woman over.

“Passengers have spoken about the everyday scenes they encounter, “The buses speed as if they are driving on the roads.
“There are not enough pavements here and we have to dodge buses every morning,” said another passenger.

As if her death was not tragic enough, the deceased’s body had to lie at the scene from 06:00 until the forensic pathologists arrived at 08:00 and this drew a large crowd.

Buscor spokesperson, Mr Vuyani Ndlovu, who was also on the scene, said he could not comment on the matter as he still had to hold discussions with the authorities.

“I can only comment on the matter later or tomorrow because it still needs to be discussed,” he said.
Ndlovu could not be reached for comment by the time of going to print.
