Steyn: Donald keeps me going

South African fast bowler Dale Steyn says he looks up to former Proteas bowler and current bowling coach Allan Donald for inspiration.

Steyn and his bowling partner Morne Morkel played a vital role to help the Proteas secure a 153-run victory over Sri Lanka in the opening Test match in Galle on Sunday, but he says the motivation comes from Donald.

“Allan is an amazing bowler. I watched a couple of his Youtube videos before I bowled here and he was just incredible,” Steyn told ESPN Cricinfo.

“And then every day he comes and tells you how good you are and what a legend you are. That must take a lot out of him because he is a legend himself.

“That’s why every time I take wickets, I try to signal to him; to try and say this is not just for the team and the fans. This is to say thank you. He keeps me going.”
Steyn finished the first test with impressive figures of 9-99 and will now look to help the Proteas win the second and final test in Colombo from July 24-28, which would see them reclaiming their top world ranking from Australia.
