Mtawarira left out of touring squad

Sharks prop Tendai ‘Beast’ Mtawarira has been left out of the touring squad for this weekend’s Vodacom Super Rugby semi-final clash against the Crusaders.

Mtawarira is still battling with a neck injury, while Anton Bresler, who picked up an injury during the clash against the Highlanders, has been replaced by Marco Wentzel.

Stephan Lewies is back in the squad after he failed a fitness test for the clash against the Highlanders.

“He (Lewies) was just sore before the Highlanders game, and we didn’t want to risk him and then have him come off early,” explained Sharks Director of Rugby Jake White.

With ‘Beast’ not in the squad, White is hopeful that Thomas du Toit and Dale Chadwick will continue performing well at loosehead.

“Thomas was outstanding, we have him and Dale,” he added. “With Beast only 50-50, we’ve stuck with Thomas and Dale, and that’s not too bad considering how they performed.”
