He remembers his roots

Although he is not yet in the national eye, King Veg has worked with a number of famous people in the country, names such as DJ Clock, Uhuru Members, and Sledge from Zone 14, to mention but a few.

Nkomazi has lately had its fair share of fame, with more television personalities gracing the area with their presence.

This is all thanks to the man who gave practical meaning to the phrase “humble beginnings”. Best known to his fans as King Veg, Veli Sindane of Steenbok, has been knocking on the doors of fame and they seem to be opening wide.

King Veg has infiltrated the entertainment industry with his latest blazing-hot single, “Ak’vele K’philwe”, meaning life must go on. He features familiar faces such as Ernest Msibi, better known to Zone 14 fans as Vuvu, and to Yizo Yizo fans as Chester.

The music video to this single was shot in his home village, Steenbok. Asked what led him to shoot a video on such dusty roads, he said, “It is said that charity begins at home, so I thought I should live up to that saying practically and become one of the first guys to elevate his kasi.”

Although he is not yet in the national eye, King Veg has worked with a number of famous people in the country, names such as DJ Clock, Uhuru Members, and Sledge from Zone 14, to mention but a few.

“Networking has got me this far and I plan to expand my contacts to help my fellow aspiring singers and actors also to reach their goals,” he said.

The charismatic voice is not the only talent the rising star possesses – it turns out he is quite big on the screen too. Veli has been featured in a soon-to-be-released Mzansi movie titled Groupie Love, which is scheduled to air on Mzansi Magic before or during August.

“I am passionate about acting as well. Apart from the movie I’m featured in, I am also busy with my own which will be shot in Nkomazi, dominated by Nkomazi actors and actresses. It might also feature big names, but the focus is to groom local talent in the whole of Mpumalanga, with emphasis on our Nkomazi,” he said.

His mother could barely hide her evident pride when Mpumalanga News spoke to her about her son and how far he had come. “It might sound cliché, but I can say that it does not surprise me that he has made it this far. He is a hard worker, and became involved in boxing at a very early age. From then I could tell there was something extraordinary about him,” she said.

She had the opportunity to host the Zone 14 crew in her home for more than two days.
“We see these people on our TVs all the time and we forget the human element. Their visit to my home served as a reminder that we are all capable of making it,” she added.

King Veg has some events lined up for Mpumalanga. “October is my birth month, Nkomazi should brace itself for the biggest bash ever. We are also launching my single in the coming months,” he said.

Under his own entertainment company, Double Trouble Entertainment, the Kwaito musician will be starting an initiative of giving young people in Mpumalanga, with emphasis on Nkomazi, a chance to become involved in the industry.

Readers should soon look out for Ak’vele K’philwe on Channel O and Soweto TV.
