Badplaas Youth Festival this week

Badplaas Youth Festival is set to kickstart this week and will give youngsters from the northern provincial regions in South Africa an opportunity to compete in mountain bike and road cycling

The second annual Badplaas Youth Festival is all set to go and will give the youngsters from the northern provincial regions in South Africa an opportunity to compete when it takes place at Forever Resort Badplaas, Mpumalanga, from 2-6 July 2014.

The event is staged to attract young cyclists under the age of 18 from the KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, North West, Limpopo and Mpumalanga regions to enhance their skills and encourage cross-pollination between the disciplines of cycling.

Boys and girls in the under/10, u/12, u/14, u/16 and junior age categories will be able to enter the mountain bike and road cycling events, with the Forever Resort in Badplaas playing host to the array of cycling events for the duration of the four days.

Thursday (3 July) will see the mountain bike race taking place, where the distances will be altered to accommodate the various age groups.
This will be followed by a road race on Friday July 4.

The courses will not be technical and is specifically designed for the participation of the youngsters in mind, all within the Forever Resort grounds.

On Saturday July 5, the action turns back to the skills of cycling where a hill climb and a team time trial will take place. A team will consist of four riders. On Sunday 6 July, the cycling action will finish off with a criterium – a short-circuit road race.

The establishment of the Youth Festival series keeps in line with Cycling SA’s Long Term Participant Development (LTPD) model, and has a similar focus and format as that of the Youth Olympic Games (YOG).
Number collection and registration takes place on Wednesday 2 July 2014 from 17:00-20:00, with the cycle racing beginning from Thursday 3 July.
