Temdzabu Heritage Society in conjunction with Ziyaphenduka Productions will host the SiSwati Traditional Song and Dance competition scheduled for July 12 at the Nelspruit Showground.

According to the organisers, the main aim is to provide a platform for the SiSwati Traditional Song and Dance aspirants who want to follow a career in the music industry.
“It’s sad but true, there aren’t enough siSwati artists in the country.

With this platform, we want to help local people who have always wanted to make it into the music industry. We want to create more of Make Shelangubos here,” said Babe Matsebula.

“We however regret to inform participants that a registration and joining fee for performers of R500 per team, comprising senior boys and girls and junior boys and girls, will be charged. Closing date for registration is June 15.

“There are prizes to be won by participants. For seniors the first prize is R10 000 plus a floating trophy,” he said.

He said there would be many more prizes on the day of the event as well as medals for outstanding individual dancers.

“There are also surprise guest performers from Swaziland and we hope that our local artists will interact and learn from their visiting counterparts. Entrance fee for the public is R30,” he said.
