Selati Cup to change hands again

All the remaining fixtures of this tourney will be hosted at the Driekoppies Stadium.

The notion that the Selati Super Cup can never be won by the same team twice in a row or be successfully defended, lives on after it has been proven again to be true this past weekend.

This is after the defending champions, Mlambo Royal Cubs who lifted the “sweet’ trophy last year, were booted out of this soccer tourney by Mdladla Peace Makers in a pound-for-pound encounter, which was decided on penalties after a goalless draw at full-time.

Since inception of this tournament in 2005, no team has ever successfully defended their title and many had hoped that Mlambo Royal Cubs would make history by becoming the first-ever team to beat the streak.

Even though they managed to make it to the last 16, this royal team knows that they should have done better, but then again, they know they were facing their toughest opponents ever.

“This is what the Selati Cup is all about. It is what the people of the region and outside come to see and I can promise you that there is even more in this tourney,” said TSB’s Kenneth Phiri who has been with this competition since the beginning.

Mdladla Peace Makers will now face Sambo Block B in the quarter-finals scheduled for this Sunday, May 25 at the Driekoppies Stadium.
Also making it to the quarter-finals, are the former Selati Cup champions, the Schoemansdal Junior Aces who have a tough date against Double Action.

Another former champion, Driekoppies Barcelona have also made it to the last eight and will sweat it out in the quarter-finals against Mananga Royal City.

All the remaining fixtures of this tourney will be hosted at the Driekoppies Stadium.
