Locals take to the red carpet

According to one of the organisers, Shirley Mnisi, the main objective of the event was to bring the red carpet feel to locals, proving that people did not have to travel far to experience the good life associated with glamour.

Glitz and glamour with a Lokshin flavour were the order of the night at Secret Hill on Saturday when music was combined with elegance on the red carpet at the first-ever fashion show by Fiercely Dezigns. Four talented local designers, Shirley M, Matutu, Jacqueline D and Jubee, had guests on their feet when they showcased their designs using ordinary people to model, from small to plus sizes.

According to one of the organisers, Shirley Mnisi, the main objective of the event was to bring the red carpet feel to locals, proving that people did not have to travel far to experience the good life associated with glamour.

“Another reason for this event is to showcase local talent and to make ourselves known as designers to our homies in a different way,” she added.

For Jacquline D, the show was a way of networking with other designers and the people who supported their fashion businesses.

“We decided to use ordinary people to help showcase our designs and not professional models because these are the same people who buy from us, and this is our way of expressing our gratitude and acknowledging their support,” she said.

Motivating the designers, Bongani Chawane said they always had to have an eye for detail when designing and had to use criticism from the public as their main guide towards improvement.

“As you grow in the business, never let negative words bring you down. Make room for constructive criticism and take advantage of it by learning and growing from it. From here, make it a point to listen to what the public, which is your support base, has to say and learn from them,” he stated.

To add a cherry on top, guests were mesmerised by Mandoza’s rendition of popular songs all night long.
