Police help local grade one learner

Last Tuesday, the Nkuna family was over the moon when the local police station came to their rescue and donated a school uniform.

KABOKWENI – In the beginning of the year, all the grade one learners were looking forward to their first day at school and were excited to wear their brand-new uniforms.

That was not the case with Mpilenhle Nkuna, who was forced to stay at home because her parents couldn’t afford to buy her a school uniform.

Last Tuesday, the Nkuna family was over the moon when the local police station came to their rescue and donated a school uniform.

Speaking to Mpumalanga News, the spokesperson of the police, Capt Shelly Ngomane said, “We received a complaint of domestic violence in the family. When we arrived, we noticed that the situation was not good and children were playing outside while other kids were at school.”

“The parents told us that Mpilenhle was supposed to start grade one at Impumelelo Primary, but couldn’t attend because she didn’t have uniform.

“As a station, we decided to do something because we believe that every child has the right to go to school and education is very important,” said Ngomane.

She added that as police, they were not only focusing on ensuring that communities are in a safe environment, but also want to make a difference by helping community members.

Mr Thembinkosi Nkuna was so thankful for what the police had done.

“It has been a burden and I didn’t know where to get money to buy a school uniform since I’m unemployed. I’m glad that finally my child will go to school unashamed,” he concluded.
