LIMPOPO – The Democratic Alliance in Limpopo had called on the MEC for human settlements Mr Ishmael Kgetjepe to urgently investigate an RDP house which collapsed and left a destitute family homeless.

According to Mr America Ngwepe the party’s spokesman in Limpopo province “the“poorly built house collapsed during a storm in October last year and left a family of four stranded in Makgophong, (Ward 1) under the Lepelle Nkumpi Municipality”.

Ngwepe said the family was only received an old tent by the municipality’s disaster management office which was not big enough.

He said his party’s agents allegedly discovered 10 more RDP houses which were poorly constructed three years ago. “The DA has already discovered more than 10 RDP houses which were poorly built three years ago and are on the verge of collapsing at Ga Matlou village (Ward 17) in Mogalakwena Municipality,” he said.

“We are very concerned about the quality of the RDP houses that are being built across the province. This is a clear indication of poor workmanship and shoddy work done by the contractors affiliated to Jacob Zuma’s ANC,” he added..

Ngwepe said his party believed the department and the contractor should be held accountable for the shoddy work. “It is clear that the department failed in its duties as project manager. We also call on MEC Kgetjepe to blacklist these contractors and strengthen its oversight in its technical departments,” he said.
