Stars and Spurs in a bitter fight

Stars embark on this journey as wounded troops, after a 3-1 hammering by the Polokwane-based side.

Sivutsa Stars travel to Emalahleni with nothing but vengeance as they take on their arch-rival, Witbank Spurs on Sunday at the Puma Stadium.

Stars embark on this journey as wounded troops, after a 3-1 hammering by the Polokwane-based side, Baroka FC this past Saturday at the Kabokweni Stadium.

They certainly need to redeem themselves and avenge their 1-0 loss to Spurs who eliminated them in the Nedbank Cup last month.

“We have no one to blame, but ourselves for our poor performance during the past weekend. We created 14 goalscoring opportunities, but were only able to score one goal.

We totally lacked tactical discipline during this game and selfishness among our players also contributed to our downfall,” said Stars’ PRO, Charles Nkosi.

“We are, however, going back to the drawing board and I am sure the coach and the boys will thoroughly work on these departments.

We are going to Emalahleni to collect points and not to donate them. We are looking for all three points so we better position ourselves in the league at the end of the season,” said Nkosi on their clash against Spurs.

He said they haven’t given up on a spot at the national play-offs and they only need to fight hard and pray other teams drop points along the road.

Having met twice already, in a space of six months and with both teams winning a game apiece, this Mpumalanga derby will certainly be a battle for supremacy.

Both teams are coming from a taxing weekend where they dropped points and will surely be out for redemption.

Stars’ loss to Baroka FC over the past weekend has seen them dropping down the table to the 11th spot, while Spurs who lost 3-2 to Thanda Royal Zulu have dropped to the seventh place.

Kick-off is at 15:30.
