Face-off between two local lads

PRETORIA – “Feel it, it is in Mpumalanga.” This is one of the most popular status updates since Tuesday night’s Idols results show that both Mpumalanga hopefuls, Musa and Brenden are through to the finals.

This was after the two, together with Soweto’s Sonke had three chances to strut their stuff on the stage during the Sunday show. Sonke bid a sad goodbye to the show, leaving ‘Team Mpumalanga’ with a rather difficult decision to make on which idol wannabe to support for next week’s final.

The show has put the two Mpumalanga lads in the spotlight. After performing three songs each, the three contestants left the judges mesmerised, since they have managed to impress them from their first auditions up until now.

Fans from Emalahleni and the Thaba Chweu Municipality have come in numbers to show support to the Mpumalanga lads. This publication’s reporters had an opportunity to interact with Brenden and Musa after Friday’s show and they both said they were humbled by the support everyone from the province had shown them.

They also said that making it to the top 3 was a memorable journey they would always cherish – whether they win or lose. “It’s no longer about who wins or not, this opportunity has already opened doors for us and I am personally going to use it to unearth the hidden talent in the province, especially in eMalahleni,” added Musa.

The show was opened by Gauteng’s boy Sonke, followed by Musa who sang “Inkomo” by the The Soil; Unathi said he has given South Africans what they wanted. Randall was also impressed after the 19-year-old Graskop boy Brenden, performed Bruno Mars’s “Locked out of heaven.”

“After listening to all your perfomances tonight, I don’t see any reason why you should not be in the final,” the hard-to-impress judge told Brenden. Nonki Mazibuko, one of the fans from Witbank, said that one of Mpumalanga’s contestants must walk away with the 2013 Idol title and show that there is great talent in the province with a pioneering spirit.
