New house for orphaned children

Orphaned children receive brand new house

NELSPRUIT – With every dark cloud there is a silver lining. Those of you who had read the book entitled The Student Companion can recall the phrase.

A dark cloud befell the five Msimango children of Matsulu when their mother passed away in 2009. It left them truly helpless in a makeshift structure not fit for human habitation.

The five orphans were left without anyone to call family as their father had long disappeared and had played no part in their upbringing.

They had to endure the hardship of life, while growing up, with no identity documents and, as such, they could not benefit from the social grant programme. Life was unbearable until a God-sent Samaritan made a turn that changed their lives completely.

This companion was chairman of the social cluster committee and MEC for education, Ms Reginah Mhaule, who was on a door-to-door campaign as part of her constituency responsibility on July 20.

She could not hide her feelings about the children’s situation and pronounced she would do everything possible to extend a helping hand to them.

Offers to ensure that a new page of life is opened for these children started pouring in immediately.

The result was a fully furnished four-bedroom house with a kitchen and a lounge as well as clothing donated by the staff of the Department of Education.

Indeed a silver lining presented itself in real terms as today there stands a beacon of hope and fulfilment of dreams for these children who are already looking at life with greater determination and courage, thanks to all the people and institutions who made this possible.

These include Big Sky Travel, Lowveld Sure Travel, Mpumalanga Regional Training Trust (MRTT), Clear Choice Builders, Abacus, Siyakhula Foods and Welcome Stores, Social Cluster Departments and the Department of Home Affairs.

Mhaule will return to this township, this time in the company of the benefactors, to hand over the house, identity documents, as well as the title deed officially.

This occasion is scheduled for Friday November 15 at 10:00 at the Matsulu Township (Youth Centre).

“It is amazing to see the wonderful work done in a short space of time in the quest to change the lives of these children for the better.

“We will forever remain indebted to all the people and institutions who dug deep into their pockets to make sure that this dream came true,” said Mhaule.
