Earth girl heads for Asia

This year’s international Miss Earth theme follows the official United Nations theme of Water Co-operation and Mbanga is ready to share with her fellow delegates South Africa’s vision for access to clean water for all.

With just days to go before Miss Earth South Africa 2013, Ashanti Mbanga jets off to South East Asia to represent South Africa at the international Miss Earth.

The 24-year-old Transport Economics Major is ready to share her passion, views and environmental activism with the world.

At a press conference hosted at Tsogo Sun’s, Southern Sun Hyde Park earlier this week, this young environmentalist shared her hopes and dreams for the exciting journey she is about to embark on.

This year’s international Miss Earth theme follows the official United Nations theme of Water Co-operation and Mbanga is ready to share with her fellow delegates South Africa’s vision for access to clean water for all.

Mbanga will represent South Africa against delegates from around the world during November and December, as she takes part in a competition that has gained unprecedented traction over the years. She arrives in Manila, Philippines in November and will spend three weeks in South East Asia, travelling throughout the Philippines visiting schools and communities, promoting environmental campaigns and programmes and meeting with dignitaries and environmental bodies across the region. Their key focus being Water Co-operation and what each Ambassador can do to continue promoting the responsible use of this scarce natural resource once they return home.

The Miss Earth South Africa strives to create a platform to empower young South African women to take on environmental and sustainability issues and build these young ladies to become Ambassadors for the extensive environmental, conservation and sustainable work done by the organisation.

Miss Earth South Africa Executive Director, Catherine Constantinides said, “We have no doubt that Ashanti will do us proud, she knows what it takes to go all the way, to compete for a title that represents everything she believes in. Her hard work, hands on involvement and tenacity will stand her in good stead. We are proud of her efforts as a green ambassador, not only for Miss Earth, but for our beautiful country.”

Mbanga is passionate about devising efficient and effective ways of moving people and freight while reducing the effect of the transport and logistics industries on the environment. She hopes to one-day affect genuine positive change from the position of Transport Minister. During the year of her reign Mbanga does what she can to reduce the effect of her personal travel as she proudly moves between engagements in a beautiful Prius Hybrid Vehicle from IMPERIAL Toyota.

“Being crowned as Miss Earth South Africa has given me great purpose and has been the most significant event in my life that I will treasure forever and I will always be blessed to continue working with the Miss Earth organisation as well as continue to serve my community and country. There is no greater service” Mbanga said.
