Father’s rape case postponed

Man who is accused of repeatedly raping his daughter an writing love letters to her, appears in court

NELSPRUIT – A taxi owner accused of raping his daughter, impregnating her and forcing her to have several abortions, has had his case postponed yet again. He appeared briefly in the local Regional Court on Tuesday.

Previously, he had been ordered to submit a sample of his writing to the court. The reason for this request was not divulged. Police would not confirm to Lowvelder that the sample would be compared with the writing in a love letter to the victim.

Mpumalanga police spokesman Sgt Gerald Sedibe said he could only verify that the man had submitted a handwritten letter following the court’s instruction.

“He submitted it in the presence of his lawyer. We cannot divulge more information about why the magistrate requested the sample, because it is part of our investigation.”

The man, aged 53, of KaNyamazane, received the instruction when he appeared in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on September 27.

The case was postponed to February 20 due to court bookings. He was remanded in custody.
