Tournament aims to encourage children off the streets

"It’s our first time to organize such games and I must say that we are going to have the tournament every year because people were motivated."

As part of giving back to the community and to show care about the stars of tomorrow and their health, Alan Hudson Select Cars based in the capital city, hosted a soccer and netball tournament at the Barberton Prison Farm.

According to Gideon Khoza from the company who was sponsoring the games, said their aim is to promote sports and to ensure that children don’t end up doing bad things because they don’t have sports activities that will keep them busy. “It’s our first time to organize such games and I must say that we are going to have the tournament every year because people were motivated,” explained Khoza .

The tournament did not only attract local teams only or people, but even soccer teams who came from our neighboring countries such as Mbabane Masters from Swaziland and Polokwane Masters were part of the tournament.

All players displayed their talent, but only two teams managed to take the cup, in soccer Barberton hospital team won by penalties 6-5 after they had played a draw (1-1) with the department of correctional services.

Hosting the tournament unexpectedly shows that the call of the MEC of culture, sports and recreation ,Sibongile Manana ,during the provincial boxing indaba that was held last week at Protea Hotel, Emalahleni where she urged private sectors to assist government to promote and bring back the culture of sports in our societies and was quoted saying: “As government, we can’t be passive observers, we need to be involved in this type of sport and can’t do it alone we need to unite and work together with the private sectors .”

  1. LOUIEVILLE COMBINED SCHOOL HAS DONE WELL IN THE TOURNAMENT OF SANDILE SIBANDE,I HOPE THEY WILL EVEN TAKE THE TOURNAMENT NEXT YEAR.
