Schools vie for glory on the sports field

KANYAMAZANE – The Sembcorp Cup Competition took place at the KaNyamazane Stadium this past Saturday.

The competition, which involves various Mbombela high schools comprised of a netball and soccer tournament. Phola High School won the netball.

The cup in soccer was won by Fundinjovo High School.
On the netball court, Phola High claimed their victory with a 22-15 defeat over Masitakhe High School.
Third position in the netball tournament belonged to Sitintile High School who defeated Cefups Academy by a narrow 18-17 margin.

Rose Mabasa, a defensive player of Masitakhe High School, won the player of the match award and her coach Gloria Manaka was named coach of the tournament.

Fundinjovo High School won the soccer tournament when they defeated Ncakini High by 3-1.

Ngodini High School claimed third spot in the soccer tournament with a 4-3 defeat over Khaliphani High School. This came after striker Thabang Mtsweni scored the fourth goal for Ngodini High in the very last minute of the game.

Mtsweni was honoured with the man of the match award because of his determination and hard work on the soccer pitch.
