Mbombela United safe from relegation

TS Sporting and Jomo Cosmos will fight for survival during the final round of matches on Sunday

Mbombela United remained in 13th place on the GladAfrica log table and are safe from possible relegation after yesterday’s penultimate round of matches.

Tingwenyama defeated bottom-of-the-log Royal Eagles 2-0 at Randburg Stadium.

Mbombela United will play a vital part in deciding the National First Division champions on Sunday. They face second-placed Ajax Cape Town which are on 54 log points with leaders, Swallows. Swallows have a goal difference of 11 and Ajax have a goal difference of 10.

Should Tingwenyama win against Ajax Cape Town at Rand Stadium, Swallows will win the league irrespective of their final match outcome against TTM at Makhulong Stadium.

TS Sporting’s poor form continued with a 0-2 loss to Real Kings at Tsakane Stadium yesterday.

Abantu Bemthetho are in 15th place on the log with 29 points and a goal difference of -9. Jomo Cosmos are 14th with 30 points and a goal difference of -13.

TS Sporting play Cape Umoya United at Tuks Stadium on Sunday and Jomo Cosmos face Pretoria University at Wits Stadium.

If both TS Sporting and Cosmos draw, Sporting will go down to the ABC Motsepe League. If Abantu Bemthetho win and Jomo Cosmos draw or lose, Cosmos will face relegation. If Sporting draw and Cosmos lose then Cosmos will move down to 15th place and Sporting will be safe.

All matches on Sunday kick-off at 13:30.

The South African Football Association (Safa) and the PSL are yet to make a final decision concerning the ABC Motsepe leagues. They have not been given the go-ahead to resume, and the decision will not be made before lockdown level 1.
This means that these leagues might be concluded before the end of October, or not at all.
If Safa and the PSL decide that the 2019/20 ABC Motsepe leagues are to be declared null and void, and no play-offs will be held to decide two stream winners which would be the teams to be promoted, the bottom two teams in the GladAfrica Championship will be gifted proverbial get-out-of-jail-free cards.
Should this not be the case, Royal Eagles and either Jomo Cosmos or TS Sporting will be relegated.
