Stars thrash opponents

Mphakathi will be looking to get their first maximum points when they visit an improving Barberton City Stars.

Phiva Young Stars gave a rude welcome to Mphakathi Academy in the Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League after thrashing them 5-1 at Kees Taljaard Stadium in Middelburg during their Saturday encounter.

This was Mphakathi first game in the 2016/17 season after they gained promotion to the third-tier of the South African football via the boardroom.

Bevan Mahlangu, ABC Motsepe League coordinator in Mpumalanga, confirmed that Mphakathi from Middelburg in Nkangala Region have been promoted to the ABC Motsepe League after Xhantia Celtic from Bushbuckridge lost an appeal.

“Xantia was found guilty of misconduct during their play-off game against Mphakathi. They (Xanthia) intimidated officiating officials, resulting in the match not being played to finish,” said Mahlangu.

At the time when the game was abandoned Xhantia was leading 2-1. Mahlangu said another appeal lodged by East High Academy has not yet been completed.

East High from Mbombela in the Ehlanzeni Region has lodged an appeal against Zone Mavo FC from Secunda in the Gert Sibande Region for fielding a double registered player in Zakhele Justice Mgobhozi against them in their other play-off games.

Mgobhozi is also allegedly registered with Absa Premiership side, Supersport United.
East High ended-up losing the game 2-1.

Meanwhile, this coming Saturday, Mphakathi will be looking to get their first maximum points when they visit an improving Barberton City Stars.

The game will take place at Barberton Prison. Kick-off is at 15:00.

Stars, which were not in action over the weekend, were last season relegated to the SAB Regional League from the ABC Motsepe League.
But they have since bought their way back after purchasing the franchise of Justicia United.

Mphakathi will find Stars a hard nut to crack as they remained unbeaten this season. After three games, Ingucungucu remain unbeaten with two draws and one win. Stars will pin their hopes on the likes of Lassy Ramole, Abednego Khoza and Andile Fakudze to win them the match against the rookies.

Meanwhile, Nkomazi-based, Phiva will host Secunda Stars at KaMhlushwa Stadium. Kick-off will be at 15:00.
