African giants to meet at Mbombela

These two African giants will lock horns on Saturday, July 11, during the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup group stages

The Mbombela Stadium will once again become the centre of attraction when Orlando Pirates host Egyptian giants, Zamalek FC.

These two African giants will lock horns on Saturday, July 11, during the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup group stages.

Kick-off is 15:00.
The Buccaneers progressed to the group stages after embarrassing AS Kaloum 4-1 on Saturday, while winning the tie 6-1 on aggregate.

Orlando Pirates are joined in Group B by Congolese side, AC Leopards, who eliminated Nigeria’s Warri Wolves, Tunisia’ CS Sfaxien and Egypt’s Zamalek. Speaking to the stadium spokesperson Mthuthuzeli Qamba, he said tickets will be going for R50 for adults and R20 for learners.

“Orlando Pirates are actually representing the entire country and are therefore in need of support from everyone in the country. So, I would like to urge all soccer loving people of the province to come in numbers and rally behind our boys. The ticket price has been carefully adjusted to accommodate everyone,” said Qamba. He said the reason why this particular fixture was brought here was because of the support and interest shown by the people in the province.

“We are known for filling the stadium and that is why we are given rights to host more games here. And in that light, I would like to call on the many soccer supporters in the province to show the whole world that Mpumalanga is a soccer mad province,” Qamba continued.

Prior to this clash, Pirates will have to travel to Congo, where they have a meeting with AC Leopards this Saturday. Qamba said they would communicate all the logistic pertaining this fixture in due time.
