East and West ready to face off in semi-finals

These four teams will make their first-ever appearance in the semi-finals.

It will be a battle between Nkomazi’s east and west sides when the teams from each geographical area engage in a tussle in the Selati Cup semi-finals.

This Sunday at KaMhlushwa Stadium, Magogeni Santos FC will take on Masibekela Arsenal and 21 Jump Street FC prepare to entertain Langeloop Blue Crane. Soccer fever is already running high with social-media forums and experts choosing their preferred winners.

These four teams will make their first-ever appearance in the semi-finals, which has over the years produced a number of talented players who are now plying their trades with teams in the ABC Motsepe, National First Division and the Premier Soccer Leagues.

Notably are Langeloop Blue Crane mentored by the former Sivutsa Stars official, Thokozani Mkhatshwa.

Mkatshwa’s young side gained passage to the semis after defeating Mbuzini Hotspurs in the quarter-finals last Sunday.

In the last 16, they trashed Maduma Young Stars 4-1.

Even though the focus was on Mkhatshwa and his boys, the three other teams were equally up for the challenge and could cause an upset on the day.

Known as the cup of upsets, the Selati Cup will undoubtedly go down in history as the only provincial professionally structured amateur soccer tournament, which has successfully revived rural football and economic stimulation.

Since inception, the cup has changed hands nine times, meaning that no team has ever successfully defended it thus making this tournament.

“I want to win this trophy and go all the way to defend it and become the first coach to have ever done so.

“It is not going to be easy though, because all the teams that are in the top four are actually tough and currently play good football.

“We are going to fight to the bitter end,”said Mkhatshwa.

Many local soccer gurus believe that Mkhatshwa’s boys have what it takes to lift the Selati Cup trophy.
