Last clash is a mere formality

With just one game left to play, Mbombela United have been confirmed as the provincial champions of the ABC Motsepe League and their final clash against their archrivals, Phiva Young Stars will just be a formality.
This is after second-placed Phiva Young Stars suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the tricky East High Academy FC last Saturday, at the KaMhlushwa Stadium.
Young Stars, who came to this clash with 63 points, needed to collect maximum points at all cost to sit behind the log leaders, United who have 65 points.
United who had a break over the past weekend, were sitting nervously on top of the table with 68 points, mathematically meaning that these two giants would have been separated by three points before the last game of the season this Saturday.

The pressure though, would have been on Phiva Stars since they would have come to this game looking for all three points to finish on top with 69 points just one point ahead of United, who only needed a draw to secure a spot in the national promotional play-offs to the country’s second highest league, the First National Division.
“We lost it in the end, and there is nothing we can do except to congratulate Mbombela United.
“We are however going there on Saturday to give it our best.
“We are now playing for our pride. We need to win this game just in case we win our appeal we have lodged against East High Academy,” said Phiva Stars’ spokesman, Manyovu Thabo Mnisi.
Whenever the two rivals play against each other, they never disappoint as they produce really top-of- the-drawer football.
Both will give a final dose of what they are made of to thrill supporters at the KaNyamazane Stadium this Saturday at 15:00.
