Selati Cup off to a good start

Despite there not being any points up for grabs in this weekend’s encounters, it was everything to play for during the kick-off of the Selati Cup.

Despite there not being any points up for grabs in this weekend’s encounters, it was everything to play for during the kick-off of the Selati Cup.

Last Sunday at KaMhluwshwa Stadium, the tournament began with a 19-goal thriller, with some of the favourites having to fight to stay in the run and others taking an earlier shower.

Former Selati Cup champions, Shongwe Chiefs had to make a shocking retreat, despite opening the 2015 Selati Cup scoring tally with an amazing kick by Mbongiseni Nkosi. Chiefs were trashed a slender, however decisive, 5-4 by newcomers Driekoppies 21 Jump Street Football Club.

Crowd pullers and favourites, Driekoppies Barcelona, were almost embarrassed before their loyal supporters, who had made the journey to see them play against Matsamo Peace Maker.

Heading into half-time, both sides were at loggerheads with one goal apiece. It took two brilliant goals from Barcelona’s Speedy Mabaso, and Kagiso Mlambo, to break the deadlock only seconds apart in the 73th minute.

The Phiva boys, PVK Black Movers, came into their match with the aim of making a statement that they were a side to be reckoned with, securing their opening goal in less than five minutes after kick-off against Masibekela Professional.

By the time the sides went into half-time, Black Movers, were 2-0 up and still looking fired up for more. In the second stanza, Black Movers, took the match 5-0.

Magogeni Santos were also in action against Sihlangu Junior Aces.
This was the only match of the day which produced a singular goal, favouring Santos.
